In fact, it generates more wind power than any other state in the country — by a wide margin. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Texas' 13,000 turbines are responsible for over 25% of the United States' total wind electricity. Power-Technology puts its installed capacity at 24,899 MW, which is enough to power the equivalent of six million homes. The second-place state in terms of installed wind capacity (though not necessarily production) is Iowa, with 8,422 MW. Oklahoma is close behind with 8,072 MW, and California rounds out the top four with 5,885 MW of capacity. As for actual wind electricity generation, Texas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Kansas (which is fifth in installed capacity) account for more than half of all wind power produced in the U.S. :
