That's not the case in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Gatlinburg's SkyBridge, which opened in 2019 in the Great Smoky Mountains, now claims the title of longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the United States. (Whether it’s the longest in North America depends on exactly how you measure things; a bridge on Canada's Kelowna Mountain may be longer.) In any event, at 680 feet long, Gatlinburg's SkyBridge gives those crossing plenty of time to think about the decision they've made as they make their way over the valley floor 140 feet below. The SkyBridge even has some clear panels near its midpoint that let brave hikers look down at the drop beneath their feet.:
