Delhi, India - Jama Masjid, or Friday Mosque, is striking for a number of reasons. Sitting at the center of the historic walled city in Ahmedabad, India, the mosque weaves together multiple architectural styles and influences — mainly Hindu, Islamic, and Jain — in a way that virtually no other mosque in the country does. This blend is perhaps best seen in the main prayer hall, whose 260 columns draw inspiration from the interiors of traditional Hindu temples. Impressive as it is today, the mosque was even more striking when it was first completed in 1424. An earthquake in 1819 unfortunately destroyed substantial portions of the two primary minarets. Nearly 600 years after it was first constructed, Jama Masjid still serves as a place of worship to this day.:
