Today the house is a public museum dedicated to the iconic American author, who also happened to be a cat lover. As evidence, approximately 40-50 cats live on the premises, many of whom are descendants of the ones Hemingway owned when he lived there. The cats here share a unique trait that one of Hemingway’s cats possessed. They are polydactyl, meaning they have six toes instead of five, which gives them the appearance of having thumbs.
