But the town wasn’t named for their sunny dispositions: It earned its moniker in the 19th century in honor of Happy Draw, a local stream that supposedly got its own name from cowboys thrilled to discover it amid the arid Texas panhandle. Today, the town is home to about 650 Happy residents.:
