He teamed up with Gene Kelly on “Anchors Aweigh” (1945), “On the Town” (1949), and “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” (1949). In “Guys and Dolls” (1955), he built up the oldest established, permanent floating crap game in New York as Nathan Detroit, opposite Marlon Brando as Sky Masterson (whose role he famously would have preferred to play). Sinatra also appeared in “High Society” (1956) as reporter Mike Connor alongside Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, Celeste Holm, and Louis Armstrong in the remake of The Philadelphia Story (1940) set to Cole Porter songs.:
