A design by the same architect - Renowned architect I. M. Pei contributed iconic designs to two very different institutions. One was a new grand entrance to the Louvre, one the world’s most prestigious art museums in Paris, France. The other was a spectacular new showcase of rock and roll history, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. He first designed the iconic glass pyramid addition to the Louvre in 1989. Standing 68 feet tall, the futuristic design — against the backdrop of the historic French museum building — proved controversial upon its opening. Still, Pei was later hired to design the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He created a similar pyramid or tent-like structure as the entrance to that museum. The pyramid is said to resemble a guitar neck rising upward, and Pei described the building as “open — like the music.” It was one of many notable works by Pei, who passed away in 2019 at age 102.:
