Her dedication on October 28, 1886, included a parade down Broadway, which inspired office workers in the buildings that lined the street to throw the "confetti" of their ticker tape out the window in celebration. This first ticker-tape parade was entirely impromptu, but it quickly became a lively tradition that would be utilized for everything from the Apollo 11 astronauts landing on the moon to the United States' women's national soccer team winning the FIFA World Cup (twice!). And, all three of the other options (Washington's centennial, Roosevelt returning from safari, Lindberg's famed flight) each got their own ticker-tape parade as well.:
