In 1973, Curry’s co-star from the stage production of “Hair,” Richard O’Brien, invited him to audition for a new experimental musical called “The Rocky Horror Show.” His audition song was “Tutti Frutti.” According to Curry’s website, O’Brien originally had Jonathan Kramer of “Midnight Cowboy” (1969) in mind for the role of the doctor who made Rocky a man, but “Tim Curry came in to audition and poor Jonathan never had a chance.” O’Brien himself played Riff Raff.:
