Budapest - Budapest’s Dohány Synagogue, also known as the Tabak-Shul or Great Synagogue, is one of the largest synagogues in the world. Designed in the mid-19th century by German architect Ludwig Förster, the synagogue has just under 3,000 seats. Dohány Synagogue also features intricately patterned ceilings of carved stone and brick, as well as a stained-glass rose window above the entrance and copper-domed towers on either side of the gateway. Its 5,000-tube organ has been played by Franz Liszt, among other notable musicians.
