France - These ruins are all that’s left of Château d'Engelbourg (Engelbourg Castle) in Thann, France, which was constructed circa 1224 by Count Frederic II of Ferrette to guard the Thur Valley in the Alsace region of France. The castle was damaged during the Thirty Years' War, and King Louis XIV ordered its destruction in 1673. As the castle walls crumbled and the great halls were torched, the main tower fell into several sections. One section fell onto its side and was left there. Locals call it the “Witch’s Eye” because it seems to peer down at the village below.:
