In 1955, puppeteer Jim Henson had a show called "Sam and Friends" that ran for five minutes between the "Huntley/Brinkley Report" and "The Tonight Show" and featured an early iteration of Kermit. Made from an old coat and ping pong balls, Kermit was only one part of a puppet ensemble that featured Harry the Hipster, Icky Gunk, Mushmellon, and Sam, whose specialty was lip-syncing popular songs. But even in this early form, Kermit was clearly the prototype for the internationally iconic frog we know and love today.:
