Step 2 : Answer to the question "What Indiana town is named for a city in Chile?"
Valparaiso - The small city of Valparaiso in northwest Indiana was originally named Portersville in honor of Commodore David Porter of the U.S. Navy. In the War of 1812, Porter commanded the Essex warship in a famous battle that took place in the harbor of Valparaiso, Chile. While the battle was lost to the British, Porter was seen as a war hero, and his sailors suggested renaming the town of Portersville after the Chilean city. The name in Spanish translates to “Valley of Paradise.” However, the Indiana town is pronounced a little differently than its sister city in Chile — it’s Val-pah-ray'zo instead of Val-pa-ra-í-so. Located in Essex Township in Porter County, Indiana, Valparaiso is now home to about 33,000 people and the University of Valparaiso.:
