Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which Southeast Asian city is known as "the city of cats"?"
Kuching, Malaysia - Kuching roughly translates to “cats” in the Malay language, but nobody really knows why the city of Kuching, in Sarawak (Malaysian Borneo) is named after these cute creatures. One theory is that the British colonists who arrived in the 19th century had a misunderstanding with a local leader. When one of them asked what the place was called, a local man thought he had pointed to a cat and replied with the Malay word for the animal. Other possible explanations are that many cats used to roam the city, or that it’s maybe named for the so-called "Cat's Eye" fruit that grows nearby. Whatever the truth may be, Kuching is truly obsessed with its namesake. You'll find adorable cat statues throughout the city, a cat cafe, and even a cat-themed museum. :
