[Answer] Years after tricking him out of his birthright, who sent his brother lots of gifts, hoping to hold off his retaliation?

Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Years after tricking him out of his birthright, who sent his brother lots of gifts, hoping to hold off his retaliation?"

...Jacob sent his servants to inform his brother Esau that he was nearby and hoped to find peace with him. The servants returned with an ominous message, "We gave him the message, and he is coming with 400 men." Jacob shook in fear. Years before, he had tricked his foolish and short-sighted brother into giving him the power and prestige of his birthright in exchange for a bowl of soup. Attempting to wear out his brother with kindness, Jacob sent droves of livestock as gifts to Esau. He instructed his men to put lots of space between each drove of animals, and said each drove leader should greet Esau in the same manner: "These are presents from Jacob. He is coming behind us to meet you." Soon Jacob could see Esau and his 400 men coming toward him. Jacob tried to safely organize his wives, children, and servants, fearing in his heart that his brother would kill them all. Jacob humbly bowed seven times before Esau, imploring his mercy, when suddenly Esau grabbed and hugged his brother. He was thrilled to see him and his family. He told Jacob none of the gifts were necessary because he was his brother, and he had nothing but love for him. What Jacob feared the most did not happen. Instead, he discovered a valuable lesson. Sometimes the best gift needed for reconciliation is the giving and receiving of mercy.
