Chicago - There are around 450 Hindu temples in the United States, but the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Sanstha Mandir temple in Chicago is particularly special. The marble temple, located in the Chicago suburb of Bartlett, features traditional Indian design and was constructed by 1,700 volunteers. Using the “Shilpa Shastras,” ancient Hindu texts specifying temple design, the complex was constructed out of limestone and marble without any steel supports. The stone was carved in India and was shipped over from Italy and Turkey before it was transported to its site in Chicago and pieced together.
