It was commissioned in 1751 for £100 GBP (equivalent to about $34,000 USD in 2021) and completed by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry — also known for re-casting Big Ben’s ringer in the Elizabeth Clock Tower. Weighing over 2,000 pounds and measuring 12 feet in circumference, the Liberty Bell later cracked and was recast twice in Philadelphia. The original London foundry closed in 2017 after more than four centuries, and its last bell was preserved in the Museum of London. Today, you can see the Liberty Bell at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where it’s surrounded by other important artifacts and sites of early American history.:
