Lake Baikal - At a depth of 5,315 feet, Lake Baikal in Siberia is over a full mile deep. Just north of the border with Mongolia, the lake also holds the distinction of being the world's oldest freshwater lake. Scientists believe it was created between 20 and 25 million years ago. Because of its unique age and geology, the lake is home to some plants and animals that can't be found anywhere else. One example is the Baikal seal, the only seal species in the world to live full-time in a freshwater habitat. To this day, scientists aren't sure how the seals got to Lake Baikal, since it's hundreds of miles inland, far away from the saltwater oceans and seas where seals normally live.:
