Step 2 : Answer to the question "What is California’s largest island?"
Santa Cruz Island - California’s largest island is Santa Cruz Island, part of the Channel Islands off the coast of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. The 96-square-mile island is almost three times the size of Manhattan, but it has no residents aside from park rangers and overnight visitors. Santa Cruz Island became part of Channel Islands National Park in 1980, but the park only owns 24% of the island. The other 76% is owned and managed by an environmental group called the Nature Conservancy. The island is home to 60 endemic plant and animal species, more than any other island in the Channel Islands. Its highest mountain, Diablo Peak, reaches 2,450 feet above sea level, and it is also home to the Painted Cave, one of the largest known sea caves in the world.:
