Step 1 : Introduction to the question " Which of these mountain ranges has the highest peak above sea level? "
...
The Himalayas is a mountain range in Asia which separates the Indian Subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The Himalayas include over fifty mountains exceeding 7,200 m in elevation, including ten of the fourteen 8,000-metre peaks. It was formed due to the subduction of the Indian tectonic plate under the Eurasian Plate.
The range consists many of Earth's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest. Mount Everest is Earth's highest peak above the sea level located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. It has an elevation of 8,848 m (29,029 ft). It is known as it's native name Sagarmatha – 'Sky's Head' in Nepal.
The China–Nepal border runs across its summit point.
In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society, as recommended by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India, who chose the name of his predecessor in the post, Sir George Everest, despite Everest's objections.
Mount Everest attracts many climbers, some of them highly experienced mountaineers. There are two main climbing routes, one approaching the summit from the southeast in Nepal (known as the "standard route") and the other from the north in Tibet.
