Like that of the fountain in Rome, the Trevi Fountain of D.C. is centered around the Roman god of the sea, Neptune. Designed by then 27-year-old sculptor Roland Hinton Perry in 1898, the fountain was in fact, inspired by the Roman landmark and stands outside the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. The heroic-sized figure of Neptune would be 12-feet-tall if he were standing. Neptune is flanked by his sons, each blowing conches, and a pair of sea nymphs known as Nereids.:
