Van Buren, a Democrat, went by the nickname Old Kinderhook after his birthplace in New York. Used as a nod toward his nickname, "OK" was used as a slogan for his campaign. The actual phrase "OK" comes from an abbreviation for "orl korrekt," a phrase commonly used in place of “all correct” in the 1830s. It was an intentional misspelling of the phrase, used in a joking manner. Unfortunately for Van Buren, even the catchy slogan didn't win him reelection. He was succeeded in office by William Henry Harrison who sadly passed away 31 days into his term.:
