Armenia - The historic Monastery Complex of Sevanavank dates back to about the fourth century, when the King of Armenia converted to Christianity. Gregory the Illuminator established two churches here, and one of them, St. Karapet’s, still stands today. More buildings were added in the ninth Century. The complex was built on an island in Lake Sevan, but water levels dropped due to irrigation developments in the 1930s, changing the island into a peninsula. Between the exploration of historic buildings and the water sports of Lake Sevan, the area is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Armenia.:
