United Kingdom - After investing £285 million in an airport, you’d hope to someday turn a profit. But the U.K. government had to shut down their clifftop airport on the South Atlantic island of St. Helena after only one commercial flight. Why? Testing revealed that airplanes might be blown off course when lifting off or landing, due to wind shear. After the tests, commercial flights were suspended indefinitely. While the committee has considered blowing the tops off a pair of mountains on either side to the airfield to remove the wind shear, that idea seems to have fallen flat. Looks like the 4,000 residents of the island will have to wait to become jet setters.:
