Minnesota - Water-skiing wasn’t invented on the East Coast or the West Coast, but rather in the Land of 10,000 Lakes! Growing up in Minnesota, young Ralph Samuelson loved skiing with his friends during winter. He later began to wonder how he could glide across the water in a similar fashion. After failed attempts with barrel staves and snow skis, Samuelson took matters into his own hands, designing his own pair of skis from some tow boards. With some practice, he was soon able to glide on the water with the help of a boat, and water-skiing was born in 1922!:
