In 1885, the Statue of Liberty was finally finished, disassembled, then securely packed up in more than 200 crates for its journey to New York. It arrived at its destination in June, where workers began the process of reassembling it. Over the next four months, New York workers labored to reassemble the statue and mount it on the pedestal made for it on Bedloe's Island. The island off the southern tip of Manhattan was later renamed Ellis Island.
