Step 2 : Answer to the question "Jeremiah used the symbolism of a broken flask to change a town’s name to the Valley of _______."
Slaughter - God sent Jeremiah to Judah to predict a disaster so terrible it would make his listeners' ears tingle! God was full of righteous anger at how the people had forsaken him. They had turned to worship other gods, and in a horrific way. God told Jeremiah to buy an earthenware flask from a potter and then break the flask in the sight of the people. The flask would shatter dramatically, illustrating how God would break the people and the city, “as one breaks a potter’s vessel, so that it cannot be mended.” The town would no longer be called Topheth, but the Valley of Slaughter. God said, “I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at.” These horrifying consequences were meant to remind us of the incredible standard of God’s holiness and perfection and the terrible depth of our sin. That God chose to send His son to die in our place and to bestow His righteous life on us, is evidence of His truly remarkable grace for wretched sinners.:
