The fifth commandment is to “honor your father and your mother\" and after revealing this commandment, God offers a corresponding promise is that, if you obey, then “your days will be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” God has planned for families to be the cornerstone of society as a whole. This promise is reiterated in Ephesians chapter 6. Paul tells us that children have a responsibility to obey their parents. They are part of God’s plan. He cautions parents to bring their children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. The parents’ role is to lovingly mold and teach children of God how to live. They will guide them to become wise and self-controlled. :
