Step 2 : Answer to the question "How many U.S. presidents didn't go to college?"
8 :
Academic credentials are frequently touted by modern candidates for president, and while every single holder of America’s highest post since Harry S. Truman left office in 1953 had a bachelor's degree or higher, the same cannot be said for all of their predecessors. Most of the Founding Fathers were highly educated men, a fact that reportedly made George Washington feel inadequate. Although a brilliant general, a formal education was not necessary for his first chosen profession: surveyor. Abraham Lincoln had also worked as a surveyor, among other odd jobs. Although he was a lawyer before becoming president, he never went to college either. (To become a certified attorney in the early to mid 1800s, all he had to do was study for an oral exam on his own.) Other presidents who never went to college include Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, and Grover Cleveland. Four other presidents — Harry S. Truman, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, and William McKinley — attended some college, but never graduated with a degree.
