Step 2 : Answer to the question "Who told Joseph the baby’s name was to be Jesus?"
An angel - There were no baby name books back in Biblical times. Jesus’ earthly parents came up with his name in a very unique way. When Joseph found out that his betrothed was with child, he was upset. He knew the child could not be his, so he decided to divorce her. But one night while he was still considering this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. The angel told Joseph not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife. The child she carried in her womb had been conceived by the Holy Spirit. The baby was a boy, the angel continued, and Joseph was to name him “Jesus.” This was the Greek equivalent for the name Joshua, which means “God saves.” The angel explained, “You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). Joseph must have awoken from that dream-encounter with the angel knowing something holy had taken place. He obeyed the angel’s command and took Mary as his wife, and named their son Jesus.:
