Arizona, United States - The London Bridge that exists in England today was completed in 1973 and serves as a replacement for an earlier London Bridge that spanned the River Thames from 1831 to 1967. That bridge stood for over 130 years before concerns over its ability to support modern traffic prompted a change. American millionaire Robert McCulloch offered to buy the bridge for $2,460,000. McCulloch owned property around Lake Havasu, Arizona, and was keen on using the bridge to attract tourists to the area, so he spent another $7 million on shipping, reassembly, and various other costs that come about from trying to move a massive bridge across the world. The bridge's granite blocks were marked, taken apart, and shipped across the Atlantic. After arriving in California by way of the Panama Canal, all 10,000 tons of rock were loaded onto trucks and driven into the Arizona desert. Reassembly was a painstaking process, as you might imagine, but the bridge did open in its new home by 1971 and has puzzled tourists ever since.:
