A new heart of flesh - One of the many beautiful passages in the Old Testament is found in Ezekiel 36. God is talking to the house of Israel through the prophet Ezekiel. “I will take you from the nations and gather you from the nations and bring you into your own land.” He promises to clean them from their uncleanness and from their idols. And then he says something almost incomprehensible: “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.” The Lord goes on to explain this crazy concept. “I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” God is saying that their current heart, the heart of stone, is hard and unable to respond to God in any way. But when he pours out his spirit on them and replaces that heart with a soft heart of flesh, they are suddenly able to love God and to obey him. The new spirit in them is the Spirit of God, bringing transformational power. :
