Challenger Deep - The lowest natural point on Earth — that we know of, at least — is the Challenger Deep at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Located at the southern end of the Mariana Trench, the Challenger Deep has been measured at more than 35,000 feet below sea level. (For comparison, consider that Mount Everest tops out at around 29,000 feet above sea level.) According to the Library of Congress, it was named for the HMS Challenger, the British naval vessel that first discovered it in 1875. Since then, only a few people have made the nearly seven-mile descent to the bottom. Among them? Director James Cameron, who navigated a submarine there in 2012. :
