[Answer] What is the ninth commandment?

Step 1 : Introduction to the question "What is the ninth commandment?"

...Have you ever wondered why the ninth commandment doesn’t just say, “You shall not lie”? That would be much simpler, but we’d miss out on the rich background that these words provide: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” A witness is one who provides firsthand testimony to an event they saw. Someone who witnesses a car accident may be called upon to testify. But a false witness intentionally speaks against what actually happened in order to pervert justice. Lying is injustice. Also notice that bearing false witness is not a victimless crime. The commandment says it is “against your neighbor.” When we lie, we are actively harming and causing pain. All the “you shall not” commandments also have a positive side. The ninth commandment asks us not only to stop lying, but to promote justice and the good of our neighbor.
