Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which island group was once called the Sandwich Islands?"
Hawaii -
Hungry? You might want to head to Hawaii, originally known as the Sandwich Islands. When Captain James Cook arrived there in 1778, the British explorer named the islands in honor of the Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu, who sponsored his exploration. (And if you’re wondering, the sandwich we eat was indeed also named after him.) Cook’s arrival to Hawaii was the first European landfall there on record. After sailing through the Bering Strait, Cook headed south and eventually landed in Waimea Bay on the island of Kauai. The name stuck until the 1840s, when its local name, Hawaii began to take prominence under local rule.
