[Answer] Who was the first prime minister of New Zealand?

Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Who was the first prime minister of New Zealand?"

...Henry Sewell was the first prime minister of New Zealand. The title he held at the time was Colonial Secretary, which was the early term for premiers or prime ministers. Sewell lived in New Zealand for 17 years between 1853 and 1876. Henry came to New Zealand in 1853 to settle the affairs of his employer, the Canterbury Association. Often described as witty and well-read, Sewell's reserved and elitist nature often put him at odds with those in local colonial politics. He opposed the use of force against Maori. The 1860 outbreak of war in Taranaki distressed him so much that he resigned over the policy of land confiscation. He returned to England in 1873, where he died six years later.
