[Answer] Who was Gideon in the Old Testament?

Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Who was Gideon in the Old Testament? "

...Gideon was one of the judges who presided over Israel. He was known for his early zeal to destroy the idols of his village and to trust God by sending away all but 300 soldiers to defeat the Midianites. As you read the story of Gideon, God clearly guides and directs his every move, but then Gideon goes rogue after he gets a taste of victory. The story becomes more about Gideon's pride and vengeance than about God. After his military successes, he retired to a life of religious syncretism and moral compromise. He forged a golden ephod that the people worshiped, and he abandoned God's law by marrying multiple wives and taking concubines. He was seeking to build up his own little kingdom. The people worshiped Gideon rather than the God who had raised him up as a judge and deliverer. For all the good Gideon had done, he did not seem to truly walk with the Lord in his old age.
