“Joan of Arc” - Victor Fleming directed several of the great MGM films of the 1930s. In addition to 1933’s “Bombshell,” 1935’s “Reckless,” and 1937’s “Captains Courageous,” Fleming directed two of the biggest films of all time, “Gone With the Wind” and “The Wizard of Oz,” both in 1939. He continued to direct, primarily for MGM, into the 1940s. In 1948, Fleming directed one of the few films he made for a studio other than MGM. This was his final movie, “Joan of Arc,” a film produced by an independent studio, Sierra Pictures. “Joan of Arc” starred Ingrid Bergman and, although the reviews were mixed, the film earned seven Academy Award nominations. It won for Best Costume and Best Cinematography.:
