Doncaster - Until recently, the storied thief who stole from the rich to give to the poor had a modern-day airport named after him in Doncaster, Yorkshire. Founded as Finningley Airfield in 1915, the British airport was used by the Royal Flying Corps during World War I and for training purposes during and after World War II. Eventually the airfield was decommissioned in 1995, but in 2005 — with the advent of low-cost carriers and rising passenger demand — the former airfield was reopened as a commercial airport. Local officials sought a famous name with local connections to the area, and Robin Hood won out. The original legends are set in Barnsdale Forest, an area of South Yorkshire which surrounded Doncaster. However, the name was short-lived, and it was renamed Doncaster Sheffield Airport in 2016.:
