Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Which famous Pharisee was Paul's teacher?"
...Paul was one of the greatest gospel teachers, writing letters to young churches, speaking to crowds and kings, Jews and Gentiles. But who was responsible for teaching Paul? In Acts 22:3, Paul lists his Jewish pedigree by saying, “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers.” Gamaliel held a prominent leadership position in the Sanhedrin, perhaps the equivalent of the president, like his father before him. He was widely known and respected as a teacher of the Law, and was an active member of the Jewish council. Acts 5:33-39 describe Gamaliel standing up for the apostles when they were arrested and brought before the Pharisees. “Men of Israel,” he said, “take care what you are about to do with these men.” He gave a couple of examples of other men who had stirred up the people to revolt and then their popularity faded away. “If this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail, but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” The Pharisees took his advice and let the apostles live.
