Alejandro G. Iñarritu - Joseph L. Mankiewicz was the first director to win two consecutive Oscars, winning for “A Letter to Three Wives” (1949) and “All About Eve” (1950). He also won Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Awards for both films. In 2016, Alejandro G. Iñarritu made history as the first director to receive back-to-back honors since Mankiewicz in 65 years, as he won for “The Revenant” (2015). The previous year, the Mexican director had taken home the statuette for “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” (2014). In his acceptance speech for his work on “The Revenant,” he quoted a line Leonardo DiCaprio’s character tells his mixed race son in the film: “They don’t listen to you.
