ZZ Top - ZZ Top is undoubtedly the brainchild of frontman Billy Gibbons. He founded the band in 1969 with bassist Lanier Greig and drummer Dan Mitchell; their first single was called "Salt Lick." However, soon Greig was replaced by Dusty Hill on bass and Mitchell by Frank Beard on drums. The new trio of Gibbons, Hill, and Beard played live together for the first time in February 1970 at a Knights of Columbus Hall near Beaumont, Texas. Hill would later admit in interviews that he didn't even own a bass at the time and borrowed one for the gig. Now, 50 years later, the famously hirsute band is still together and touring across the world. (Side note: While Gibbons and Hill have sported their chest-length beards since the early '80s, the only member of the band who does not wear a beard is … Frank Beard.) :
