Located along the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal, HABITAT 67 was designed by Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie as a community and housing complex for his master’s thesis at McGill University. His resulting architectural wonder aims to combine the privacy and nature of suburbia with the economic benefit of urban living. The complex consists of linked landscape terraces and walkways among 354 interlocking boxes that rise up 12 stories. There are 148 units in total, each with at least one private terrace. The Habitat made its debut in 1967 at the World’s Fair Expo 67 and soon became one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city.:
