Fort Worth, Texas - This futuristic glass, concrete, and steel building has been the home of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth since 2002. Designed by famed self-taught Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who is known for his use of concrete, the unique structure features five pavilions with 40-foot-tall walls of glass, with concrete Y-shaped columns supporting concrete slab roofs. The pavilions themselves appear to float on a 1.5-acre reflecting pond that’s surrounded by landscaped gardens and outdoor sculptures. Founded by a group of women as the Fort Worth Public Library and Art Gallery in 1892, the museum claims to be the oldest institution of its kind in Texas.
