Step 2 : Answer to the question "Who was the youngest person ever nominated for Best Director at the Oscars?"
John Singleton - John Singleton’s 1991 film “Boyz n the Hood” shook up Hollywood, telling the coming-of-age story of three teens (Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube, and Morris Chestnut) growing up in the face of violence and gang culture in Singleton’s hometown of South Central Los Angeles. At 24-years-old, he not only became the youngest person ever to be nominated for a Best Director Academy Award, but also the first African American to be nominated in the category. Singleton also picked up a nomination for Best Screenplay. Singleton did not want anyone to direct the film but himself. He reportedly turned down $100,000 to turn over the script to another director, and Columbia Pictures ultimately picked it up. In 2002, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry. At the Austin Film Festival in 2016, Singleton said, “It's all about having that original concept and genuine concept of where you're from. Your perspective and your POV, it may not be for everybody. But it's your perspective, and it's valid.”:
