Step 2 : Answer to the question "What children's author also invented a surgical device?"

Roald Dahl - Roald Dahl is the author of some of the most popular titles in children’s literature, including “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “James and the Giant Peach,” “Matilda,” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” But his skill didn’t stop there. Dahl’s name can be found on the surgical device the “Wade-Dahl-Till shunt.” In 1960, Dahl’s infant son was involved in an accident and suffered several skull fractures. He survived the treatments, but continued to experience hydrocephalus, or buildup of fluid within the brain. The existing medical technology just wasn’t good enough, and Dahl decided to do something about it. He partnered with pediatric neurosurgeon Kenneth Till, and a toy designer, Stanley Wade. Mr. Wade’s specialty was tiny hydraulic pumps to fuel model airplanes. This hydraulic action was exactly what was needed to produce a shunt that would remain clear of debris and treat the hydrocephalus. The improved WDT shunt is estimated to have been used for the treatment of some 3,000 children before even better technology replaced it a few years later.:
