Toyoda started by experimenting and failing with renewable, unlimited energy as a means to replace coal. Then he turned his attention to the standard hand loom and patented the Toyoda wooden loom, which required one hand to operate instead of two, improving both efficiency and quality. This kickstarted Toyoda's lifelong mission toward performance optimization. When Toyoda passed away in 1930, his son Kiichiro carried on this legacy with a new subsidiary of Toyoda he formed three years later, focused on the same commitment to innovation — but with cars. :
