Located in Herrnbaumgarten, a small village in northeast Austria, the museum opened in 1984, after Fritz and Betty Gall invited fellow villagers to view their large collection of nonsensical items and failed inventions in their home. They expected a couple dozen people to come — instead, six thousand showed up. The couple was inspired to open the museum, which is located close to their home. Some of the unusual items on display include a semiautomatic nose picker, a padded rolling pin, and a bowl with holes in it for dieters.:
