[Answer] In most Protestant and Jewish translations, what does the eighth commandment of the Bible say you shouldn’t do?

Step 1 : Introduction to the question "In most Protestant and Jewish translations, what does the eighth commandment of the Bible say you shouldn’t do?"

...Though the Catholic and Lutheran faiths order the 10 commandments slightly differently, putting the eighth commandment as "thou shalt not lie", most Protestant and Jewish faiths consider the eighth commandment to be "you shall not steal." Feelings of greed and covetousness are at work within the heart and mind of a person who steals. You would not steal if you didn't first desire something that you did not own or work for, subsequently convincing yourself that it is OK to plot to take it. However, the Bible identifies certain people whose motivation to steal differs from greed and covetousness. Those who are starving have little to no hope of acquiring food to feed themselves or their family without resorting to stealing. Proverbs 6:30-31 expresses that this person must still be punished, but not to the same degree as a person whose theft is not based on an actual necessity. Either way, stealing is wrong. It represents sin against yourself, others, and, most importantly, God.
