Peru - Only one Incan handwoven bridge remains of the ancient Peruvian civilization’s road system. Called Queshuachaca, the 118-foot-long, 500-year-old, grass-woven bridge swings 60 feet above the Apurimac River. Building these bridges was a team effort. Incan women would braid thin cables, which the men bunched and braided into thicker support cables. As the bridges fell into disrepair, many were removed, leaving this last Incan bridge preserved by the local Quehue community. Each year, the community renovates the bridge and ceremonially blesses it, while honoring Mother Earth, Pachamama, and Apus, the mountain spirits.:
